Our History
The house is a unique part of the history of Deer Park. It was originally build in 1900 and expanded in the 1950's. It eventually was divided into three separate apartments. On July 27,2001 it was purchased by a Christian fellowship group from Christ's Church of Deer Park, whose purpose was to develop a home that could be used for outreach.
The remodeling began in 2002 and was finally completed in March of 2009. Typical of older homes, the work proved to be quite extensive. For instance, the entire interior of the home had to be demolished, except for the framing in the walls; the upper floors had to be lowered to meet correct codes; the floors and the lath and plaster walls had to be replaced; all electrical, plumbing and heating had to be updated; a new roof and exterior siding was
required; new windows were installed; two out-buildings and an exterior stairway to an upstairs apartment were removed and extensive interior finish work was accomplished. The entire project has been financed by the group members, outside contributions and fund-raising projects.
The home has been redesigned to include a two bedroom apartment upstairs for temporary living and the main floor for meetings, counseling and fellowship gatherings. The main floor has a full kitchen, dining and fellowship room, private den for counseling or study, full bathroom and utility room
About Us
Shepherd's Cottage is a ministry developed by a group of people who desire to demonstrate their faith through a Christian outreach home. The home has been remodeled and designed to be used for counseling services,
Bible study groups, Christian fellowship gatherings and to provide limited, temporary housing. The volunteers of the ministry are people from all walks of life with backgrounds in medical, educational, ministerial, business, social service and numerous other occupations.
We are a non-profit organization. The members of Shepherd's Cottage are non-denominational. We believe we are called to live our faith through such works as Shepherd's Cottage. It is a work of faith and labor of love in the unwavering hope of our Lord Jesus Christ.
We know all things are possible through Him and so we believe that our lives and this home will be used to bring love, faith and hope to the people we come in contact with.
